Terry Reid On Telly

Terry Reid appeared live on WNETZ.Net TV on 3rd March 2000 . There is a recording ( Realmedia ) of the show still available for viewing here .

Well there you go , I've been a fan of Terry Reid's for 30 years , hear nothing about him , find precious little on the web so decide to do a website , 2 weeks later I do one of many searches for any links and there he is on the telly , live Wed 3rd March .
I missed the actual broadcast but thankfully they kept a recording available as a Realplayer file . I'm dependent on good old copper wire for my connection and live in deepest Devon (England ) so the quality of the image was poor but the sound was fine .
Below I've laid out the bare bones of the interview together with some rather pixellated screencaptures.
The interview started late , about 1hr into the 2 hr show , with mentions of Terry stuck in traffic.
The main import of the interview to me is that Terry is alive and well ( ok so no news there) still has a good voice , still plays a mean guitar and is still writing and recording songs.

The interview chopped around a bit with the interviewer ( the pneumatically challenged Michette ) trying her best to get Terry to relate an apparently well known ' on the road ' story . Terry seemed more intent on talking about whatever he felt like talking about. Along the way we got five Terry tunes.

Terry talked about the start of his singing career entertaining his mums fellow fruitpickers as they worked in the Cambridgeshire orchards . He conjured up a nice image of himself on a fruit box singing his 5 yr old lungs out to a group of women . With this successful debut Terry moved straight on to a major venue, the local Church hall ! For his song Terry chose ... which as he states was an ambitious choice for such a young tho seasoned performer . As his spot approached terry descibes his parents seated in the hall father sternly vibing terry to quote mother all nerves for her little boy. No need to worry either of them stagefrigt was clearly not an issue . the curtain , singular, opened the other remaining in place neatly dividing T standing on a chair to reach the mike. Now most kids would have crumbled run for mum got giggles etc not Terry off the chair moves it to the open curtain part of the stage backon and away .. apro at the tender age of. Such early stage problems probably stood him in good stead supporting the Stone in 69 .
T moved on a few years to 12 when he was first in a band and then another 3 years to 15 ,making a choice in the school summer holidays of 64 to quit school and get in a band full time ( presumably Peter Jay and the Jay walkers ).
We jump on further to tales of a band on tour in a plane with person after person not knowing what the date was and therefore having no idea where they'd just played or where they were about to land for their next gig.
Lots more anecdotes and chat so go to the link and listen for yourself

We got to hear 5 pieces from Terry , three on disc and two sung there and then.

he lives , terry reid lives

Songs on disc :-
First song a recording of The Road We Chose , with MickTaylor .Mick's brilliant slide guitar and Terrys vocals driving the track along .
Then a version of crooner track ? what a great voice still and according to Michette this was recorded live , no digital mucking it about . An album of standards from Terry I wonder ? he'd plainly make a good job of it.
Finally ' Laugh at life ' from The Driver with those soaring female voices coming in at the end . Terry mentioned his great love for Bulgarian choirs as used on this track .

Songs live : -
Two live songs one Beach Boys ' Don't worry baby ' that he played as part of an allstar tribute band at Carl Wilsons memorial concert and a completely new song inspired by his first love who he subsequently met , she now has 5 kids !

In all a very satisfying hours viewing though how Terry kept his mind on anything with Michette bobbing about in such a confined space .... no I'm too old and my pacemaker's on its third refit I'll end this train of thought right now .

I've mailed the station and requested that they keep the link to the recording on file for as long as possible , they probably will anyway but if others do the same (mail to wez@nwez.net) they're more likely to !

If you have trouble getting the recording to work go to www.real.com/ for advice or to download the neccessary software.
