England November 2005

After the great success at Glastonbury in June this year and some select smaller gigs in Scotland a further set of dates was organised for November.

This turned out to be the most extensive set of gigs that Terry has done in, well as far as I can tell, 30 yrs.

Terry flew in from New York following his gig at The Turning Point with a week to rehearse and get ready for the upcoming tour.

Planned itinerary was London, Bristol, Cambridge, Manchester, day off, Gateshead, Sheffield , London, day of London again .....

Amongst the gigs Terry had 2 appearances on Radio 2 ( primary UK station for adult music ) .First on the Bob Harris show and second with Johnny Walker. Both well respected radio hosts.

The band was the same as Glastonbury.
Terry- Vocals and guitar
Bruce Malament - Keyboards
Dzal David Martin - Lead and slide guitars
Ash Soan - Percussion
Mark Smith - Bass

The London gigs were done with full band the other gigs were just Terry and Bruce.

Terry kicked off at Ronnie Scotts on Sunday 20th in fine style, band were excellent and Terry was in full voice, the place was packed, barely room to move. Terry quipped when he came from the dressing room and was hardly able to get through that he might as well sit down and enjoy the gig with the audience.
Jimmy Page was in that audience and offered to bless Terry's guitar !

By the second Ronnie Scotts gig Terry's voice was a tad shredded but he still came on and gave it his all, the band played superbly again.

These 2 gigs were attended by critics from The Independent and The Times who both gave very favourable reviews ( see below)

Final gig of tour was in London at the 100 Club by which time Terry's voice had recovered and he gave a blistering performance , the kind, had he not got the cold more of you would have had.

The four gigs sandwiched in between London consisted of just Terry and Bruce on keyboards . A combination that worked really well in Scotland earlier inthe year.
These gigs were beset with difficulties, despite which I've had many pleased emails and comments.

The Bristol gig which I was at went pretty good with, as ever, some great moments , Terry's voice was failing and the gig was preceded by a tiresome journey in freezing fog that took too long leaving Terry and Bruce with little time to relax or prepare properly for the gig.

The next three gigs in Cambridge, Manchester and Gateshead certainly got the punters stirred up. Check out the guestbook and forum for a wide variety of views.

The punishing schedule took its toll and sadly the Sheffield gig had to be cancelled , with Terry's energy levels low, and the cold exerting it's grip on his voice.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I think that without doubt it was too much in too short a time. I sincerely hope it won't be repeated with the gisg being planned fro next year.

Overall with the successful London gigs, the two very favourable reviews in national newspapers and the two appearances on Radio 2 this visit has been seriously beneficial in edging Terry back into the wider public eye. There already several USA + UK gigs planned for next year as well as offers coming in from Europe lets hope a firm recording offer arrives as well.

Honourable mentions on the tour:

Bruce for forsaking California to come to sunny England in November, struggling on with a cold and having hurt his foot and finally for playing Mayfly on the piano when I mentioned it was my favourite Terry tune.

Simon Sessler, road manager, roadie and everything else. Simon also demonstrated the scary qualities of Terry's trusty Martin, as in tuning it and before our very ears letting us hear it detune itself. Gotta be some Picture of Dorian Grey type connection with Terry and this guitar.

Gerry Lyseight for introductions, arrangements and other behind the scenes efforts.

Annette for bringing a little Californian sunshine over with her smile.

Chris J for doing a lot of the organising planning and essential thingsI know nothing about .

Gibson UK for once again lending Terry a couple of fabulous guitars.
