Terry Reid Temple Guestbook
Jan - August 2002

Hi I am a big fan of terry his one of the best singer/ songwriter i
ever heard.I miss one of the best records (River)is there anybody who
could help me where to find this album? please

Dan H.   17/Aug/2002:17:58:39
Great site. What can I say? Hearing Terry's first two records in 1981
made me "remember" a late-60's magic era I had been too young to
experience first-hand. After Antonioni's "Blow-Up" and Nic
Roeg's "Performance" but before Zepp became arena monsters. A time of
free festivals and the naive but sincere belief that millions of young
people were going to change the world, with an incredible freedom of
ideas...
"Speak Now...", "Silver White Light", "Rich Kid's Blues", so many
others: they transport me to artificial memories as vivid as any real
ones-- standing transfixed at a drizzly festival in 1969; in and out of
Ann Arbor hippie-house parties in 1973. Of course, Terry should have
been massive then and still deserves to be. I am grateful he is still
making music and wish him and other Terry Reid fans all the best.

Wonderful job ..

I first saw Terry on Liverpool Stadium in late 1960's. He was
appearing with Canned Heat. Canned Heat were rubbish and the only
memorable thing they did that night was to throw frisbees to the
audience. I've still got mine somewhere. Terry mesmorised the
audience that night, although I later read somewhere that he thought
his whole tour was crap. Well, we didn't think so.
There has never been a week gone by in my life without me playing a
Terry Reid track. I always have a cd of his in the multichanger at
home or in the car.
Along with Tony Joe White -&- Jackson Browne, Terry is on my 3 top all-
time favourite artists.
Favourite tracks are: Mayfly, July, Dean, River, Believe in the Magic -&-
The Driver.
I found out too late that Terry was over for Womad 2002. I'd love to
see him again in the UK. That night at Liverpool Stadium tuned me into
a man who possesses special talent

Joel,
The info's on it's way today!! Thanks so much. It's gonna make Rita's
day this!! (If I ever let go of it meself!!).

By the way, in case anyone's interested and you don't already know....
The "Glastonbury Fayre" offical video has as it's opening act a certain
groovy young guy in a serious peaked hat (and a very happy drummer as I
recall). Worth checking out for the whole festie thang, but also well
worth it if you wanna kick start a collection of TR live (Which is
where he's at his best, I reckon!!).
Thought you should know...

Take it easy people....

I don't spose there's any chance of getting a copy of that viddy from
the WOMAD performance, is there? I'm quite willing to pay (Assuming
Terry doesn't have a problem with us blagging it, that is!).
If you're up for it, can you drop us a line here and we can sort summat
out, yeah?.

Er...hello everyone else. (Spesh Rita cos she's ma Babe!!)

Sorry...must have blathered too much....here's the rest of the
message...

Terry, on a personal note (assuming you get to read these messages), I
cannot believe a talent such as yours can possibly continue unrewarded
in the public gaze. You deserve massive recognition and I for one (Rita
for two) so hope that this is the time the world finally wakes up to
the brilliance that is Terry Reid!!!!
(Rita says..."Awesome!"....I can't argue with that)

Take Care and come back soon (if not sooner!!!)

Baz

Baz   03/Aug/2002:19:17:05
Ooh 'eck! That worked well, didn't it? (Rita's pooter got a bit excited
on that first one...sorry!)

Anyway, back to plot....WOMAD!! Jeez!! I've doing this festie for over
12 years now and to feel like I did on sunday night was something I
really didn't expect at all - I didn't expect to have me rocks
shattered by the mallet of talent I witnessed that night (And the
previous performances there too).

Terry was simply electrifying!! And let me tell you, youngfellahmelads,
I've seen the biggest and the best! TR is one of 'em...and it's a
bloody injustice to such talent that he isn't recognised for it!

Rita n Me so wanted to go ballistic (We still have the hair to do it
with!) but it probably would have been a bit dangerous for the rest of
the seated audience! We may need a nother copy of the Live CD at this
rate cos Rita's just about worn her copy out already!!

As Rita said before, check out the other albums through Freak Emporium
(cos they're luvlee people!). We have.

This little old lady with sparkly eyes stood with tears in them asking
me why she had not heard of TR before (Womad 2002). Well what could I
say? I hadn't either but I was crying as well. Last night of Womad,
second time I'd heard the Voice in 2 days. Everyone on the camp site
was buzzing the next day - must find out something about him on the web.

We are all soulmates now - love this guy to death

Joel Davies   02/Aug/2002:17:54:05
Saw Terry at WOMAD on Sunday with his pals from New York. Never seen
him before but he was nothing short of fabulous...really amazing
expression with the mans voice. Everyone that was with me is now a
Terry Reid fan for life. I also managed to record it on video and it
gets better every time I watch it. Alpha Blondy was preety cool too.

Nice one Terry.

Joel

Rita Weddell   02/Aug/2002:13:53:48
Hi,
I saw Terry for the first time too at WOMAD 2002.
Don't know how I missed him in the 70's
I managed to get a CD of Terry's at WOMAD but, because my boyfriend Baz
knows loads of music stuff........
He called a music shop named Freak Emporium in Gerrards Cross in Bucks
and to cut a long story short we now have three of Terry's old CD's
winging their way to us in the post right now.
Check out their website to see what they've got.........

www.freakemporium.com

Terry was the best act at the festival this year for me and to finish
last on Sunday night........WOW !

Happy hunting for CD's everyone...........Rita

JIM SCADDING   01/Aug/2002:18:10:02
Saw Terry Reid for the first time ever on BBC FOUR TV highlights of
WOMAD 2002 festival. I only caught his second song "Don't Know Why"--
I think is title. I was staggered by the experience. Is it possible
anyone out there video-taped this? I would be very happy indeed if I
could buy a copy . Does anyone know if this great song has been
recorded by Terry?

John French   01/Aug/2002:09:37:48
I guess you are never too late !
only heard/saw the Glastonbury vid this week,,now making up for
lost years.

simon   31/Jul/2002:22:41:15
I stole a pound from my mum to buy Terry Reid, packaged as The Most of
Terry Reid - it cost 17/6. It was the first record I'd ever bought, and
certainly one of the best.
I later spent many months playing River late at night as I went to
sleep.
TR is certainly my favorite singer, and one of the most important
influences in my musical life.
I've also just returned from WOMAD, not knowing he would appear, and
never having seen him live. What a gift that man has - so wonderful to
hear July, solo and spontaneous.
Thank you Terry. In your music I can find myself in a place where
everything seems okay.

Keep Coming Back!

Brian Hulcup   30/Jul/2002:19:50:00
Thanks for all your hard work Keith. I was on holiday in America at the
time of the Womad gigs - Wedding anniversary, couldn't cancel, I have
to live with my wife, not TR, so I was eagerly looking forward to your
reviews on my return early Monday morning. Can you put me on your
mailing list please?

Tom Mckee   30/Jul/2002:09:26:24
Just got back from WOMAD, only caught the friday gigs. What can I say,
I was blown away. Last saw him around 30 years ago at THE PLACE in
Hanley, expecting him to be "toned down" but NO he rocks like hell, had
a fantastic time, come back soon Terry.

Pete Hibbs   29/Jul/2002:21:59:36
Well now I know what it is like to find paradise and feel sad. Find
this site and then discover that on the same day he had been playing in
this country and I never knew !
Still I can listen to hime everyday and keep on dreaming !
Please put me on any mailing list associated with Terry and does
anybody know where i can get a copy of The Driver

Just got back from WOMAD. Having caught all 3 hours of his amazing
performances I have to say each gig played was better than the last.
The band got looserr (as in tighter) from show to show. Though he
repeated songs through all three shows, he kinda threw the set-list
away by gig 3 and played several excellent surprise numbers, both
electric and acoustic. The voice the voice .. Special thanks to Keith
for putting up your report and pix so quick. I also took photos of all
3 shows which I'll post a week from now.

As a regular WOMADer myself, I'd also like to add that for me
personally, (as well as Terry Reid of course), 70 year old ska jazz
stalwart Ernest Ranglin provided the most inspirational musical moments
of the festival

all the best y'all

ken chapman   28/Jul/2002:23:03:29
I was there........!!!!!!!!! I saw Terry at Womad on the Friday gig.
And superb he was too! I am a big Van Morrison, Joe Cocker fan and I
now add Terry to this illustrious duo!
But I can't understand why his appearance wasn't publicised more
widely. Please lets have more advertised live UK performances and Im
sure that, despite being late in the day, Terry will get the success he
so richly deserves.

Chuck Hutsler   28/Jul/2002:00:58:51
Reading the guestbook, I've noticed that many of the fans have a hard
time finding certain Terry Reid albums on cd. Well I have the whole
catalogue and I'm willing to make cdrs of the albums if anyone's
interested. Email me and we'll work some kind of a trade.

Cheers, Chuck

Womad yesterday waiting in the tent out of the sun and Terry came on
for a soundcheck - blew us away- and that was before the show even
started. Thanx to this web site for telling us about TR playing in the
UK - more, more, more. And then he goes and plays full sets - I cant
believe he was on, I'm lost for words. Keep the faith.

Just thought those of you in the UK might like to know that BBC 4 (on Sky
Digital) will be showing WOMAD highlights tonight, Saturday and Sunday at
10.30pm til midnight.

Also, those of you who received the July newsletter might like to know
that the Hurricane restoration project mentioned therein, is my husband's

advertising!)

Joel Davies   25/Jul/2002:17:24:34
I guess no one has a copy of the Glastonbury gig on video then? I'll
gladly exchange for a copy of River on CD, in fact any of his albums.
It's amazing to read the comments below and see how many people were
turned on and blown away. Someone somewhere should pull their finger
out and get this man some more UK gigs and re-release earlier TV
footage.

gavin   24/Jul/2002:10:10:07
Just listened to 'Terry Reid ', god what a mish mash. Played it to a
group of friends and asked them to name the artist. Depending on which
bit they heard, we were in and out of the garden, they came up with the
following; Early Noddy Holder, BB King, The Hollies, The Searchers,
Free, Judy Driscoll! The Seekers and Cream. Just about tells the story,
despite the standout Superlungs, and 3 or 4 others, the rest receives
some of the most unsympathetic handling and arrangements I've ever
heard from a producer. How exactly were they trying to package him, in
fact that seems to be the problem, too much packaging and not enough
just letting him play.

Star of New Faces and best remembered for Hot Chocolate, a fatwah on
you Most for f**cking up a genuine talent.

In 1997 I heard for first time " seed of memory" that is one of my
favorite records. ¡What songs, what voice!. After came "River" :
Wonderful,stranger, incredible....

I believe that Terry is abolutely ignored in Spain .That shame and
that pity.

Stuart Ashworth   21/Jul/2002:15:17:44
I was introduced to Terry by my old mate HARRY IN 1970 we listened to
his songs and saw him live at the Kirk Country club where he loved to
feel the bounce of the stage and also at the Redcar Jazz Club where
Alan White was his drummer. If Terry reads this i wish him well from a
couple of old fans.

Mike   19/Jul/2002:15:47:44
I saw Terry Reid a few times, must have been around 1970 when he had a
weekly residency at the Marquee in London. Absolutely brilliant, not
just singer and songs, but his presence. Lovely Man. Bought all the
records he made around then, still have them. Very sad all the
commercial problems blew his career after that. Still looking forward
to his Big Break.

Love Mike.

Here's what they have to say in the program
Biography by Andy Morgan, July 2002:

Does great talent inevitably rise to the top? It’s a nutty old
conundrum that has tested sages and svengalis since time immemorial but
Terry Reid fans the world over have no doubt that the correct answer is
No! You see, being in the right place at the right time has as much to
do with fate than talent, a fate seems to have dealt Terry Reid a
busted flush, until now that is. Reid was ‘discovered’ at the age of 15
in his native Cambridgeshire and soon became a promising fixture of the
burgeoning blues/rock/R-&-B scene of la

I caught the Glastonbury movie too. As well as seeing the classic Terry
Reid performance again, I spotted my brother in the crowd, tripping out
to Arthur Brown.

Dropping in to let you know that Terry is now confirmed to appear both
on Friday 26th and Sunday 28th July at WOMAD Festival in Reading .. and
I'm gonna be there !!
Having met the man in person last October at the Palladium, I figure
the chances to be pretty high of bumping in to him again in the crowd.
I'm dying to find out what he thought of my CD.

Nostalgically sifting through some old vinyl at a party, I came
across a Terry Reid single...Now that I have a flash techy turntable
which is compatible with my Pioneer system I couldn't wait to take
a walk down memory lane. One listen and I was again reduced to
the adoring teen-groupie and avid Reid-worshiper I once was!!
Time has no doubt taken it's toll on the swivil-hipped
fifteen-year-old front man of The Redbeats but I'll place good
money to bet the voice has diminished not one gravilly
soul-drenched iota! It must have been about 1964 at a village Hall
dance somewhere like Papworth or Great Gransden,
Cambridgeshire. I would beg my Dad to drop me in the middle of
nowhere on a Saturday night to hear him play. It probably cost five
shillings- all my pocket money. I had Mary Quant paintbox painted
lips, two pairs of fake eyelashes, a Sassoon geometric haircut,
platform boots and fringed flared Levis. I was all of 14 and
hopelessly in love with the unattainable. One Saturday nig

Listening to The Driver as I write.
I remember when I was living in Truro many years ago going on a trip to Plymouth to see Terry, who was third on the bill after Jethro Tull and Savoy Brown. I seem to remember he looked about 12, but when he launched into "Superlungs" everyone paid attention! As an irrelevant aside the trips to Plymouth were originally started as it was the nearest place to have anything worthwhile. One of the original organisers was Roger Taylor before he went off to fame and fortune.....

Tuned in to Glastonbury on Friday night to watch my favourite band
Family and saw this strange guy in a sheepskin hat who didn't look
unlike Mark Bolan and sounded a lot like Paul Rogers. I was completely
stunned by this man's performance and particularly by the pedal steel
playing going on behind him. I'm ashamed to say that I had no idea who
he was and ended up rewinding the video several times to try and catch
the muffled announcers credits after the number had finished but just
couldn't work it out. Following much discussion in the pub a know all
mate reckoned it might be a character by the name of Terry Reid. Cue
the internet and yes it is this man. Terry if you read this you just
gained a new fan - thirty years too late perhaps, but I'm on board now.

Like a lot of people I watched the Glastonbury Fayre concert on tv on
Friday and was BLOWN AWAY by Terry Reid. I have since been trying to find
out as much as I can about him.

Let's face it there are NO bands who could sound like that now, with that
level of musicianship and laidback sense of groove.

The time has come for the music community to reappraise the man,

andrew james   29/Jun/2002:15:50:43
Watching 'Glastonbury Faire' last night on British TV I was not only
highly entertained by the 'nuts in may' type British hippy vibe and
hilarious monty python / spinal tapisms from the acts and campers, but
more importantly I was reminded of the breathtaking talent of Terry
Reid. While turning down the role of Led Zeppelin might be considered
by most to be a bad career move in hindsight it is understandable that
in 1968 this guy would have thought the roads would be wide open to
him.

And that band - excepting Sly and the family Stone, I can't think of a
better one.

Err, is he coming to the UK ever again?

Psi   29/Jun/2002:14:18:43
Me again!..Call it what you please, but I predict that after 'people'
have seen Glastonbury Fayre,Terry will gain a recognition he so
obviously deserves, beyond those who have richly championed him for so
long....

Why is it the most talented advertise the least?

You should be bored of this, but you have given me so much pleasure,
upto and including "Driver"

Bas Möllenkramer 23/Jun/2002:11:14:40
Hi there
I am a late convert to Terry Reid and his legendary status is only
recently becoming apparant to me. I have Bang Bang, the 1969 Columbia
self titled album and Seed of Memory. River and Driver are next on my
hit list. The power of his music is awesome. Now I know where
Bloomfield -&- Stills stole their amazing arrangement of Season Of The
Witch!!
No offense to Gillan and Plant but either Purple or Zep would have been
amazing with Terry Reid at the controls.

Finally found a copy of River. Bought the LP in Notting Hill Gate for
£20, just listening to it now...amazing! Such a small price really.
See you by the river.

Inspired to add my penny's worth, solstice eve 31 years on from
Glastonbury Fair where a fresh faced youngster danced in ecstacy to the
amazing sounds emanating from a strange pyramid stage. Lost the
trousers in a muddy field and was donated replacements by some kind
people. Also left the festival with a guitar - another amazingly kind
gift! Been having fun ever since! Thanks for the music Terry.
Cheers!!

John Gillham 14/Jun/2002:16:53:11
Just bought remastered 'Terry Reid' cd from Amazon. God knows how many
years it is since a group of us heard him rocking at some student bash
in 68/9 in the Regent Street area of London I think? Beer in plastic
beakers but great rock!

Mayfly just brilliant. Can we have a new album Mr Reid? Camel have
their own production company in California now - you could do the same.

cheers
John Gillham

Patricia   14/Jun/2002:15:21:29
Great Site! Any guarantee he will still be playing Monday nights at
The Joint in CA. Will be traveling there this summer and would love to
see him live. Is there a mailing list?

arthur owen   30/May/2002:10:57:07
I can't help thinking that constant references to the sixties and to
the likely age, decrepitude, and substance-taking habits of Terry's
fans do him no favours. This is living in the past, and he is as far
as I am concerned,a timeless talent; a great, great singer and
musician, and God knows we need as many of those around as possible in
these times when the music business has sunk about as low as it can get
in terms of manufactured homogenous crap. I can't help thinking that
even the current cloth-eared record-buying public, if exposed to real
music just once, would love it; for Christ's sake, someone with the
money, give this fantastic talent, and all of the rest of us, a break!

mick huckerby   29/May/2002:21:28:05
Lived off an old battered copy of 'the most of terry reid' for many
years - then spent some money and got the CD's. The run of tracks on
that album is still (in my opinion) the most sustained set ever put
down on vinyl or plastic - unless someone knows different!

Maggie   29/May/2002:12:29:27
I've only recently been introduced to Terry's music and can't help
noticing the extreme similarity between Terry's track "The Driver"
and "Last Note of Freedom" as featured on the Days of Thunder
soundtrack. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm aware that Terry's track
Gimme Some Lovin' is on the same soundtrack.

Also does anyone know why "The Driver" album is not available for
purchase? (The few tracks that I have heard have been mp3 files).

I certainly think Terry has a great voice and am gutted that I missed
his brief UK tour in October last year. Hope he comes back soon.

robert l frommer   24/May/2002:23:51:32

I saw Terry at Whiskey a GoGo in 1969. I have his earlier
albums.

Ian   24/May/2002:11:27:32
Re The River on CD - I've had it since about 1999. I saw an advert in
the back of a music mag. Took over 8 weeks for it to arrive. Rarer than
rocking horse shit now. I reckon it's probably gone out of print so
it's up to Warner and his Brothers to extract the corporate digit an
release it proper - or licence somebody to do so...

Ian   24/May/2002:11:23:48
I bought the Superlungs CD off E-Bay as well - it wasn't so pricey as
it allowed me to order direct from the manufactureres ratehr than 'bid'
for it. Got it sent to the UK here for about 22 US Dollars. Basically
it's a selection of songs recorded live - so is a bootleg. Some of the
recordings go as far back as 1969 so the quality is variable. Sometimes
you crank the volume up really high and naturally that's when Terry
pins back your ear lobes with an ear shattering display of vocal power.
As it's probably the only live stuff we'll ever get I can HIGHLY
recommend it...

Great site. I have been a fan of Terry's since the late 60's. The

Bottom Line in NYC. The Seed of a Memory Tour. Great night all the
way around. Peace and Respect to Terry and all his fans.

Andy,
I went through the same thing this Dec -&- Jan. Finally turned to eBay
and have done well collecting the LPs, just got my first CD tonight:
TERRY REID "Superlungs" CD - inserts are said to be in excellent
condition. Paid fairly high for it - had some competition. It's on
the "Third Eye" label, 1995. All songs are with full band, though no
credits are given, but I think it's fairly safe to say Keith Webb -&-
Peter Solley play on the Boston Tea Party tracks.
Tracks are:
San Francisco radio, 1970
”Silver White Light”
”No Expression”
”Things To Say”
Boston Tea Party, 1969
”Speak Now Or Forever Hold Your Peace”
"Highway 61 Revisited”
”Penny”
”Superlungs”
Glastonbury Fayre, 1971
”Changes / Stay In My Home”
The Boarding House (San Francisco), 1976
”Faith To Arise”
”Seed Of Memory”
”Rich Kid Blues”
”Ooh Baby”
Anyone else heard this CD? Anyone else have this CD? Lemme know - Sumra

Well, Terry Reid 1st saw the man in the late 60's at the Bay Hotel,
Whitburn, in the N.E. of England. Great gig at the time - Family (have
a listen to roger chapman), Tull etc. Mr. Reid just blew everyone away.
Possibly the reason for his huge and loyal following in the NE of
England. Such assurance and passion. Very hard for aspiring blues
musicians of the same age,as we were, to realise how far we had to go
to catch up! Never mind Paul Rogers, etc. Bottle neck with an ever-
ready battery!
No need to euligise over the great man's talents, he needs to be got on
the road, preferably further afield than L.A. and London. He would get
packed houses in Newcastle, UK.
Amazing that both my sons (21 -&- 17 ) have all, all, what a word for so
much time gone (micky most you ******), the stuff and think the man a
total hero!. Seriously, no influenced from me,- lines of 'who's this
bloke dad he's ****ing amazing' Well my son, boring old fart, boring
old fart, etc.

Any word on that homemade CD of the tape of the British shows
last fall? As I said, I'd take a couple. That's what my relatives
will get for XMAS.

I have a friend that live two blocks from The Joint who has
produced several records (TMBG). If its a technical snag
or dissatisfaction with recording or just short attention-span,
maybe we could give the process a push.
Barring that, its a simple matter to convert the tape to MP3 and
just make it available via Napster/Bearshare/whatever.
Releasing it to the Net wouldn't generate money directly, but
sure would generate a lot of good will to the hardcore fan base,
who would spread the word around. We can't help being evangelical
about Terry Reid!
A lot of folks have seen the Mojo mention and this web site,
but can't find TD CDs at the local mall. Make it easier for them.

tim shockley none 19/Mar/2002:01:17:30
terry reid sang the song for the white kids of the late 60's. not a
song but.... the song: rich kid blues. which was what we were and what
we had, both. And I was stone straight when I heard it and that was
enough, thank you very much.......True talent has never needed more.
I saw you, Terry, with the Rolling Stones in Ft. Collins, Colorado in
Fall 1969. Very good. The Stones were too- even if Brian Jones had
just departed. I'll tell you what, and I know this for sure. This
date marked the beginning of the end for great music. It all began to
go down the drain from then on. No wonder you never made the big time,
Terry.... you were too good, had too much soul, too much feeling,
wrote too well, and on and on and on. This is not revisionist blather-
this is the straight truth. It was the end of a time that certainly
hasn't been seen since. All the people I was there with that night
knew it too, terry. And they all knew how very good you really
were/are. So, as the say

We would love to see Terry back again and in particular here in
Newcastle upon Tyne.
We have a lovely theatre here called the opera house and recently
welcomed John Hiatt for the second of only two gigs in the UK.
Any news on a return to 'blighty?
I'm sure that Terry would go down a storm and would also show some of
these'so called' vocalists how it really should be done.
Keep the faith Terry

Thank God there is this site and most of all that Terry Reid is still
playing! Still, to this day, I have my original albums (bought in
1971) that continue to please me, soothe me, and rock me. If these
were released today they would be smash hits! We need you to record
more music Terry, I have grandchildren who think you rock too!! Isn't
that just too far out?! I still have fond memories of flirting with you

I saw the movie "The Queen of the Damned" last night. It's sort of a
bad take off on the last two Ann Rice novels.
Anyway, I just had to be the first to mention how much the young actor
who plays Listat, made up to look like Brandon Lee in "The Crow",
looks like Terry Reid 30 years ago( so much so that I stayed and
watched the whole movie). If only Terry would have been asked to do the
soundtrack instead of Korn, the movie would have kicked-ass. Instead,
It was truly a suck-fest....another waste of a big Hollywood budget.

(for first part of message see below)...went up to her and asked if
she was ok. She 'looked' me in the eyes and said she was having the
best time ever but wished she could SEE him. Yep, she was blind, but
getting so TOTALLY off it with the music that it sent a shiver down my
spine. FABULOUS!!!
How on EARTH did I miss the Palladium??????? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can
someone set up some kind of mailing list...or we at least agree to let
everyone know the slightest bit of info on this page???? Good to know
there are others out there who share my passion for Terry. It would be
good to share these memories and hopes with others. OK, that's enough
for now. Take care everyone. Until next time. xxxxx

I am a newby as far as the web is concerned (just got my pc in
January) but learning VERY fast! Lately I've been trawling for info on
lots of things, including band/artists I have loved thoughout my life.
I played 'The Driver' while having a bath the other night and an STILL
absolutely totally in awe of Terry's talent. I have most of his other
cds too, but I reckon 'The Driver' and 'Rogue Waves' are his best. I
remember seeing him at the Venue in Victoria in '77 and it was one of
the best live concerts I have ever been to. I remember sitting (though
not for long) at a table near the stage (yes, a table with chairs!!!)
and just being completely transfixed by him. It was in the days where
the odd spliff in a venue was 'acceptable' (if not de rigeur!). I
remember that, at another table, there was a group of women, one of
whom looked a little the worse for wear and was up dancing all over
the place, arms swinging, feet going everywhere and occasionally
bumping into things and people. I

Simon Needler   20/Feb/2002:10:14:43
Hi!
I've been a massive Tery Reid fan since the late sixties, when the band
I was in at the time was booked to support Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers
at the Oxford Town Hall.
We were looking forward to this gig as we confidently expected to blow
Peter Jay off the stage, as we expected the old 'Can Can' Peter Jay.
In they walked - and behind them was a thin, white faced,ill-looking
kid,who looked all of fifteen!
They set up and started a sound check. From that moment we just sat
there with our mouths open. What came out of this skinny kid was pure
magic,
and an experience I've never forgotton.
In all the years since then it has come as an unending surprise that he
never'took off'. Rvery time I play one of the CD's and somebody
says 'who's that' I retell the Oxford Town Hall story and we have
another convert.
All I can say is, Terry, keep at it!. There is justice in this world!

I visited the site in it's previous incarnation and I'm impressed with
all the additional work you've done.

Back then I mentioned the film Groupies and you very kindly pointed me
to places that may have had a copy on VHS, though I didn't purchase it.
However, in case anybody doesn't know, it's now available on DVD
(cheapest I've found in the UK is at

I hope TR is getting royalties from it .....

I am a hugh Terry Reid fan and everybody that comes to my house gets to

Nice to read the review in Mojo of Tel's gig with Nick Lowe, sorry to

Hey, second time in 12 years I miss Terry's gigs in England! Is there
any chance of setting up a mailing list, anyone?
Richard, I remember the TR interview on the OGWT as well. I think it
was with Annie Nightingale in California. I requested its inclusion on
the DVD via Bob Harris's Whispers but to no avail - perhaps there will
be another.....

I'm going to try this one more time.
Terry, I see you have had about 7,000 eyeball hits on your website this
year. Those are cult fans. Yours.
Go to someones house with a studio. Just like we all have computers, we
have little studios for our little wanna-be's at home taking guitar
lessions and some of us have studio's that you could call professional.
We even have CD burners that we bought for $300. that are far better
quality then you could find 10 years ago, anywhere. Let's see,7000 cult
fans with $20.00 each to spend on a TR CD made in 2002. That's
$140,000.00 just off each person looking you up this year. What if we
each bought one for a friend ? That's about $300,000.00USD a year on a
CD that cost $265.oo at someones house to make including the blank
CD's. CD cardboard covers are 2 cents each. Now, where was I? Oh, yea,
mailing costs. 34 cents, USA and 72 cents,UK.
What if you sold , say 10,000 in 2 months? Would you make another?
Maybe a little better quality, spend 1,500.

seastones   15/Jan/2002:16:46:47
Terry Reid was the first band I ever saw at the Fillmore East, and I
became a huge fan back then, wearing out his first two albums, giving
them away to people, etc. must've bought 10 copies each of those
albums... :-)

nice to hear he's still around and playing, but hey, how about a west
coast tour, Terry? Lots of nice venues up in Oregon and Washington...

richard cooper   13/Jan/2002:18:39:39
Just been reading all the lucky people who saw TR supporting Nick Lowe
and kick myself for not checking out sooner and why wasnt TR
advertised. The customary "...over broken glass etc".
I was sooo privileged to see TR in the early 70's in Newcastle at late
night freshers balls lying on the floor and drifting away. All friends
eversince have had to face the usual ".. you mean you never heard this"
and play all/any of TR's exceedingly small output.

I'd almost given up on any more music and was living on memories when I
found Waterloo Sunset - what is that all about, it is stunning and
reminded me why the voice was so powerful. This web site must have the
highest quotient of people with shivers down their spine!

In line with all others I'm off to play my fave TR tracks now and pine
away the hours until he returns to the UK - or maybe I should go to LA!
Am I right in remembering an interview on the OGWT with TR on a beach
in LA - so ,Bob, where was that classic on your 30 year DVD?

Bob Steingraber   12/Jan/2002:22:06:29
Terry rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is no better voice in rock'n'roll. Terry writes incredible songs.
From Terry's solo material, to his sessionwork backing other musicians,
to his acoustic duo shows with David Lindley, to his virtually
unknown "Supergroup", the Flew (with Joe Walsh, the late Nicky Hopkins,
Rick(the bass player)Rojas and Phil Jones), and more... Terry has
consistantly delivered quality music, both live and in the studio. My
only complaints?..... Not enough output. Terry has only released a
handful of albums, all exquisite. Terry rarely seems to tour, at least
in my neck of the woods. Of course, the lack of recognition and record
label support has a lot to do with it. Let's hope Terry becomes more
prolific in his recording and touring. Terry has been one of the "best
kept secrets" in Rock'n'roll.
